Saving Babies: Conditional Cash Transfers and Preventing Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission
Svetha Janumpalli from New Incentives in the U.S. will test whether conditional cash transfers and incentives can prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission in Nigeria. While preventative measures such as medication, and facilities exist to decrease the risk of mother-to-child HIV transmission, they are often not utilized by the most vulnerable women. To address this, they will conduct a small-scale randomized control trial that involves paying a group of HIV-positive pregnant women a small cash sum when they attend an antenatal appointment, give birth at a health center, and take preventative medication.
