Tsinghua University - Grand Challenges Explorations is a program launched by Tsinghua University in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Aligned with the challenges under Grand Challenges Explorations, its goal is to foster innovative research with scientific rigor in global health research to enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of major infectious diseases, and save lives in China and other developing countries. The Tsinghua GCE program launched in 2011, with the first projects funded in 2012. Calls for proposals open yearly, and successful applicants have the opportunity to apply for Grand Challenges Explorations Phase II awards at the end of their Tsinghua GCE grants.
